Housing Agency Urges Residents Living in Unfinished Housing Developments To Use Guide

Today, the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government launched the National Housing Strategy for People with a disability.

The Housing Needs Assessment 2011 is released today.

The Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government and the Housing Agency has prepared a Guidance Manual on Managing and Resolving Unfinished Housing Developments.

Housing Agency Chief Executive, Mr. John O'Connor welcomes the new housing policy statement launched by the Minister for Housing and Planning, Mr. Willie Penrose T.D. at the Housing Practitioner’s Conference on 16 June, 2011.

Mr. Willie Penrose, T.D., Minister for Housing and Planning, today (9 June) called upon developers and financial institutions to take a more pro-active approach in working out long-term solutions for unfinished housing developments across the country.

Minister for Housing and Local Services, Mr. Michael Finneran T.D., today (17th February) welcomed the interim analysis and findings of the Advisory Group on Unfinished Housing Developments. The two most critical matters the Group considered were public safety and the living conditions of residents in unfinished developments. There are approximately 400 housing developments, which are particularly problematic and will be the focus for initial action. An allocation of €5m is being made available to Local Authorities to deal with immediate safety issues and works to improve the living conditions for existing residents. While the Advisory Group is still finalising its analysis and recommendations, the Chair of the Group, Mr. John O’Connor reported to Minister Finneran on emerging findings across a range of areas.

John O’Connor, Chief Executive of the Housing and Sustainable Communities Agency was last night awarded honorary membership of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) at its annual Presidential Dinner in London.
