About the Housing Agency
The Housing Agency was set up in May 2010 by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government. The aim of the Agency is to work with and support:
- local authorities,
- voluntary housing organisations; and the
- Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government
in the delivery of housing, planning and related services.
The Agency is taking on some functions previously carried out by the Affordable Homes Partnership and the Centre for Housing Research. The Agency will also be responsible for a range of technical functions, including some of those carried out by the National Building Agency.
The Affordable Homes Partnership closed at the end of last year and the National Building Agency is in the process of being wound up.
Objectives
- Assist and facilitate local authorities and voluntary housing organisations with their housing functions.
- Advise on and assist with policy implementation.
- Research and policy advice.
- Provide professional and regeneration services.
- Underwrite loans for house purchases.
